I find it slightly ironic that I start my first blog about a mans last race. Kenny Wallace made his final NASCAR start on Saturday in the Xfinity Series. It was his 905 th start in NASCAR. Although he didn’t end up in victory circle , he was able to hang up his helmet with a top 15 finish. Herman the German , the Hermanator , or Herm the Worm Weaver , call him what you like but don’t refer him to “the TV guy “. Yes we all know he does awesome work for Fox TV as a commentator, but his true talents come from behind the wheel. I think with his TV work , sense of humour and verocious laugh , he sometimes is not taking seriously. But he made 905 NASCAR starts , won the 1989 Busch series rookie of the year and has visited victory lane 9 times. With 177 top tens , Kenny has shown he could compete with the worlds best drivers in the best series. He has shown his passion for driving and racing throughout his career. He will tell you although he never had the best stuff , he never settled for ” the start and park “. He had too much pride for that , he’s a competitor, a racer. Now my all time favourite driver , Kenny Schrader introduced him to dirt racing years ago. There the two ” brothers from another mother” compete and win regularly. So while he may not drive in the NASCAR series anymore, you can still find him “racing dirt ” and laughing, and winning. So Kenny thank you for your 905 starts , enjoy your dirt racing , enjoy your wife and girls and enjoy yourself. I’ll see ya on TV doing your upbeat commentating , but I’ll think back on your awesome driving career and you pushing Dale to the win in the square D.
Good Job Joey!
