Well race fans what a race, what a finish, what a turnout. Here’s my thoughts on yesterdays Daytona 500. First of all the fans sold out this new stadium and what great pleasure it was seeing those packed grandstands, yes I know it’s the 500 and the speedway has gone through extensive changes but its still great to see full grandstands.
As far as the action on the track I thought it was a great race, with a few surprises thrown in the mix. I still believe Dale Earnhardt Jr had the car to beat but spun himself out of contention trying to make something happen. Much like Chase Elliott did in the early going getting loose on his own.
I was happy with my new driver Martin Truex Jr, since Jeff Gordon is no longer driving, I now root for the no. 78 team. He came from the back and ran upfront all race long and was oh so close to winning it all.
Congratulations to Denny Hamlin on the win and fine performance and to the fans who filled the seats, and to Daytona Speedway on it’s transformation into a state of the art facility. And to the drivers for a safe and entertaining race.
