Alex Bowman ran strong in California on Sunday and won the Auto Club 400. Bowman’s name was being whispered around the garage area by his fellow racers as having one of the cars to beat and he didn’t disappoint.
Alex won’t he first stage in the race , had a great pit stops , kept his 88 Camaro upfront and collected his 2nd win of his career.
Other race highlights; Ryan Blaney had a strong car on Sunday and was the 2nd stage winner and looked like he had the winning car but was bit with bad luck again and had to pit with 3 laps left due to a tire issue. He was looking to have a top 5 finish for sure until he had to pit, he finished 19th.
One thing we notice with Ryan is how calm he is on the radio in the car, focused I’m sure but very relaxed. Even when he was interviewed after , he was disappointed but wasn’t rattled or showing anger.
Martin Truex Jr had an eventful weekend, failed tech inspection 3 times and had to start the race from the very back. He was able to come to the front and was able to stay in the top ten and raced hard. He complained on his radio a lot about how hard he had to race around his teammates but I’m sure it was just frustration. However again he had pit issues with the rear tire changer having problems due to wrist and forearm cramps. Still was able to finish 14th.
Great to see Jimmie Johnson’s family wave the green flag at the start of the race. He ran in the top 10 most of the day , led laps and finished 7th. Nice tribute to let the 48 lead the field in honor of his last possible Cup race at his home track. Congratulations to Alex Bowman, on Sunday in Cali you truly were the Showman. Next stop Phoenix. 🏁
